Don’t Fall Victim to Fraud or Scams during the Coronavirus

Fraudsters haven’t wasted any time with scams related to the coronavirus. The BBB and FTC reported that there are several coronavirus scams where individuals are contacted through text messages, social media post/messages, or phone calls. Fraudsters are asking members to provide their Social Security Number, account numbers and credit card information. Never provide this information to anyone you do not know. Below are a few useful tips on how to protect yourself against a scam/fraud:

  • Government agencies do not communicate through social media outlets such as Facebook.
  • Never pay a fee for a government grant. A government agency will never request an advanced processing fee to receive a grant.
  • Hang up on robocalls. Don’t press any numbers. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from scam Coronavirus treatments to work-at-home schemes.
  • Don’t respond to texts and emails about checks from the government. Anyone who tells you they can get you the money now is a scammer.
  • Fact-check information. Scammers, and sometimes well-meaning people, share information that hasn’t been verified.
  • Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know. They could download viruses onto your computer or device.
  • Know who you’re buying from. Online sellers may claim to have in-demand products, like cleaning, household, and health and medical supplies when, in fact, they don’t.
  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits. Scammers are trying to get you to buy products that aren’t proven to treat or prevent the Coronavirus disease.


Credit Union Lobby Closing – Drive-Thru Service Only

To protect our members and our staff from the spread of the coronavirus, our lobby will be closed until further notice. However, our drive-thru windows will remain open Mon, Tues, Thurs from 8:30am-4:00pm, Wed from 8:30am-3:00pm and Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm.

For any services that require meeting in person with one of our representatives, we ask that you call (716) 691-9187 for an appointment.

We encourage members to utilize the ATM located on the side of our building and remote banking services such as Sweet Home FCU Online and Mobile Banking. From your smartphone, tablet or computer you can check balances, transfer funds, make payments, and much more. If you haven’t yet enrolled in Sweet Home FCU Online or Mobile Banking, please enroll today or call for assistance with this process.

We are continuing to closely monitor and act upon the guidance from the CDC and local health officials and will provide updates as we adjust our plans regarding COVID-19.
